If you are a student looking toward your future,
or a person thinking about changing careers,
have you stopped to consider
God's direction
for your life?
Perhaps God is calling you to serve
as a pastor or rostered lay leader!

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America needs leaders who are grounded in faith, educationally prepared, and emotionally suited to service as pastors and rostered lay leaders. Details are available from the churchwide Web site and below.

talk with your pastor.  Additional information can be obtained from the synod office (202-822-1901, or e-mail).

"What Shall I Say?" is a short book designed to help people discern God's call and to better understand candidacy requirements.  You can order a copy from Augsburg Fortress at www.augsburgfortress.org or by calling them at 800-328-4648.  You can also obtain a complementary copy of the book from Pr. Simonson.

WHAT IS REQUIRED?

Persons planning to enter seminary begin in cooperation with a synod Candidacy Committee.  The preparation process leading up to a meeting with the Candidacy Committee takes about nine months, at which time the committee gives you an "entrance decision."  To get the process rolling, your first step after speaking with your congregation's pastor is to meet with staff at the synod office.

bulletObtain FORMS needed for candidacy, used by candidates and congregations, from the ELCA churchwide Web site.

For more information about discernment and preparation for service as a pastor, associate in ministry, deaconess, or diaconal minister, visit Candidacy in the ELCA.

CAN YOU SUGGEST OTHER WAYS TO BE OF SERVICE TO THE CHURCH?

Exciting and rewarding volunteer and paid service opportunities exist with the ELCA Division for Global Mission.  Persons interested should visit http://www.elca.org/globalserve/search.asp for further information.
