Learn more about METRO 200

The cost of developing new mission congregations today is exorbitant. The cost of getting a mission congregation into a first unit building is close to one million dollars. This kind of debt is staggering to individuals and congregations, and a daunting challenge for the synod and church at large.

Metro 200 was established by the 2001 Synod Assembly as one way that we can help spread the Gospel and share our Good News here in the Metropolitan Washington, D.C. Synod.

If 400 individuals or individuals and congregations would commit themselves to contributing $200 annually, we could provide much needed financial support to these new mission congregations at a time when they need that help the most. A fund of $80,000 from which grants and gifts could be made would enable our Synod to assist the ELCA in reaching its goal of 100 new missions each year.

In return for your $200 per year commitment, you will receive both the joy of being a key partner in the development of mission congregations on the territory of our Synod and the opportunity to proudly wear the Metro 200 lapel pin that designates you a true “Partner in Mission”. Won‚Äôt YOU prayerfully consider making a pledge of $200 per year to the Metro 200 effort?

Congregations are asked to consider making a yearly donation to Metro 200 as well. Your gifts of $2,000 or more will significantly raise our ability to support new and redeveloping congregations on the territory of our synod.
