"Synod" is a word with Greek roots meaning "being on the journey together" or "walking together."  

The Metropolitan Washington, D.C. Synod is a region of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), comprised of 4.9 million baptized members in 10,585 congregations nationally.

Our Purpose:

As the baptized people of God, gathered into the Metro Washington, D.C. Synod of the ELCA, our purpose is to draw together the resources of congregations, individuals, and local and global ministries in order to engage our community in the Gospel of Jesus Christ so that all people may experience God's grace and fullness of life.

Here in the Metro D.C. Synod, our people and congregations have a rich history and are involved in ministry which touches lives personally, locally, nationally, and internationally.  You are invited to explore some of the following areas of ministry in this synod...
