SUMMARY:Joint Christian Advocacy Summit
DESCRIPTION:The Metro D.C. Synod’s Middle East Peace Team (MEPT) is seeking your help in providing housing for participants coming from around the country to the Joint Christian Advocacy Summit\, May 5-7\, in Washington\, D.C. \nThe MEPT is hoping that this service of the synod will help to reduce the costs for participants and also provide an opportunity to connect with Lutheran advocates from around the ELCA. \nPlease contact the co-chairs of the MEPT (Pr. Mark Brown and Pr. Renata Eustis) if members of your congregation have space and willingness to host some Lutheran participants in the Summit for two or more nights (the evenings of May 4\, 5\, 6\, and 7). Or perhaps your church has a guest facility? \nThe theme of the Summit is “Do Right; Seek Justice: Christians Uniting Against Oppression in Palestine and Israel”. The ELCA is one of the many denominations sponsoring the event and the Rev. Khader El-Yateem\, Executive Director for Service and Justice for the ELCA\, will be a keynote speaker. Learn more. \nThere will be a pre-Summit gathering of Lutherans beginning at 12 p.m. on May 5 at Luther Place Church (1226 Vermont Ave NW\, Washington\, D.C. 20005). Most of the sessions on May 5 and 6 will be at Shiloh Baptist Church\, 1500 9th Street NW\, Washington\, D.C.\, accessible by Metro (Yellow & Green Lines) at Mt. Vernon Sq Station and Shaw–Howard University Station. May 7 will be Hill meetings. \nFinally\, please consider attending the Summit with your guests! Register online.

SUMMARY:Youth and Family Ministry Listening Session
DESCRIPTION:The synod is gathering feedback on its youth and family ministry: what is bearing fruit\, where do challenges remain\, and what is your hope for the future? There are a couple ways to offer feedback (and you’re encouraged to do both): \n\nPlease fill out this listening survey.\nAttend an upcoming 1-hour listening session where you can voice your experiences and feedback. The options for these listening sessions are below:\n\n\n\n\nMonday\, May 4 OR Thursday\, May 7 – at 7 p.m. on Zoom (http://tinyurl.com/MetroDCZoom; password is 4005). These two online listening sessions are open to all: lay people\, youth ministers\, parents\, youth\, and clergy.\nSaturday\, June 6 – A final in-person listening session will be held at Synod Assembly as one of the workshop options.\n\n\n\n  \nPastor Grace Casola will lead these sessions and gather insights for the Bishop and synod council who will use them to support the vital work of youth ministry moving forward. Input from the current Lutheran Youth Organization (LYO) students will also be collected at their end of the year gathering.

SUMMARY:2027 ELCA Youth Gathering
DESCRIPTION:Imagine arms wrapped around you in love. Imagine a place for you at the table. Imagine a word of forgiveness shared with you. Imagine the sense of joy when you witness the unthinkable happening. Imagine a world waiting to hear your voice. Imagine more. \nThe power of God at work in us is a measure not of our own strength but of God’s limitless ability. God is the source\nof our encouragement and hope\, always surpassing our expectations. In Ephesus\, followers of Jesus faced social\nrejection\, opposition and even violence because Jesus’ message stood in direct opposition to the pagan goddess Artemis. Our own world distinctly parallels the times Paul references in his letter. He stresses God’s love\, God’s forgiveness of sins and the unity of those who believe in Christ. \nThrough the Gathering\, young people come together to experience that unity and understand their role in the community of the larger church. We recognize both the joy of community and the unique role of each participant as they return to their individual communities after this life-changing event. The apostle Paul sought to provide for the needs of the Ephesians with encouragement\, hope and confidence in God’s faithfulness. \nThe needs of faithful young people today are much the same. \nThe ministry of the Gathering seeks to remind young people that God is already at work in them for the sake of the whole world. Often there are pressures and fears that limit their sense of worth and their ability to change the world. Through the death and resurrection of Jesus and the presence of the Holy Spirit\, God invites young people to imagine more\, immeasurably more\, for their own lives\, the city of Minneapolis\, the body of Christ and the life of the world. \nLearn more and register at elca.org/gathering
