Feeding Neighbors: St. Michael’s Truth, Mitchellville, MD
Recently, the Synod offered Feeding Our Neighbors Together mini-grants for congregations to feed neighbors in need. We asked congregations to get creative and to share their story with us so that we could disseminate it to the wider synod. When we work together, the ministry possibilities are endless.
St. Michael’s Truth Lutheran Church, at its Temple Hills campus, has been distributing food to the community since August 2020. This year, the number of families receiving food has averaged between 100 to 120 families. During the federal shutdown, that number increased to more than 140. In November, they were able to serve 175 families with an entire Thanksgiving meal consisting of a turkey or whole chicken and sides, purchased from SHARE, with the help of the Feeding Our Neighbors Together grant from the Synod.
