Feeding Neighbors: Epiphany Lutheran, Burtonsville, MD

Epiphany Lutheran Church in Burtonsville, MD had an emergency food pantry that occupied a cramped, awkward space in the main office for many years. Anyone searching the inventory had to crouch down or sit on the floor. Staple items would get pushed to the back and risk expiring before distribution. Bringing community members into the office would disrupt ongoing work and the location was not very welcoming. To create a more inviting experience for our community, the church purchased and set up a new pantry that better presents their items to those seeking help. The new location has many advantages, not only for our guests but also for the worshiping community: it’s a reminder about a vital ministry Epiphany offers. The church can now more easily sort expiration dates, assess restocking needs, and remember that they have this resource when talking with others. Epiphany used a Feeding Our Neighbors Together grant to fund the purchase of the new pantry, pantry organizers, and the supplementation of our staple items.
