Feeding Neighbors: Living Faith, Rockville, MD
In autumn 2025, the Metro D.C. Synod began offering Feeding Our Neighbors Together mini-grants for congregations to feed neighbors in need. We asked congregations to get creative and to share their story with us so that we could disseminate it to the wider synod. When we work together, the ministry possibilities are endless.
At Living Faith Lutheran Church in Rockville, MD, their mission is to love and serve our neighbors. By the grace of God, one way they get to live out this call is through our food pantry ministry. With the help of their congregation, community members, local churches, the synod, and Montgomery County, they host a food pantry distribution every other Tuesday. On average they serve between 170-200 families every other week, around 28 lbs of food. At each distribution, they provide a bag of canned goods, a bag of dry goods, and a bag of produce.
Pastor Samantha DiBiaso said, “The Synod’s Feeding Our Neighbors grant helped us to purchase food for our Christmas pantry distribution. On Dec. 23, we served 173 families, 32 lbs of food per person. This was our 26th distribution of the year. These bi-monthly distributions would not be possible without all the support we receive from our wider community. Thank you for doing ministry with us and helping us continue to serve and love our neighbors!”
