Guest Blog: “God’s Work. Our Hands.” Opportunity

Deacon Lewis here, called to serve Goodwill of Greater Washington. On behalf of Goodwill of Greater Washington, I am excited to invite your congregation to participate in a donation drive as part of “God’s Work. Our Hands.” Sunday.

This is an easy, meaningful way for congregants to put faith into action. Our collective donations can benefit many in our community, such as a neighbor who needs a blazer for a job interview, a child who needs a gently used pair of shoes for the new school year, and a senior who wishes for a winter coat as the temps begin to drop. Here’s how it works: we’ll deliver a donation bin directly to your church, and once your collection period ends, we’ll arrange a pickup at no cost or hassle to your congregation. It’s a convenient way to get your whole community involved, with no logistics required on your end beyond gathering donations. (See photos of Good Shepherd of Alexandria’s donation drive!)

 

Donated goods directly support vital local organizations through our Good Samaritan Voucher Program, including organizations like Carpenter’s Shelter, Friends of Guest House, D.C. Public Schools, Martha’s Table, Girls on the Run, and veteran organizations, among nearly 100 others. In addition, items sold through Goodwill retail stores help fund job training programs that create real pathways to employment for people right here in our community.

Fun Fact: Donating your gently used goods to organizations like Goodwill of Greater Washington is a wonderful sustainability practice. Goodwill of Greater Washington keeps over 50 million pounds of goods out of landfills every year! An added bonus!
