Hope for the Hungry: Saint Luke, Silver Spring, MD

For over 25 years, Saint Luke Lutheran Church in Silver Spring, MD has watched their food ministry grow. Now, they feed about 100 families a month. With the help of the synod’s Hope for the Hungry grant, they were able to offer more fresh fruit and vegetables in addition to their pre-packed bags. Saint Luke supports the local Montgomery County farms by obtaining a list of what seasonal produce is available and then ordering accordingly. In the winter, when a wide selection isn’t available, they order produce from a food distributor. They are excited to extend their offerings, moving beyond only canned and packaged food to including fresh produce for neighbors in need.
