Racial Equity Team Prayer Petition | October 2026
The Metro D.C. Synod’s Racial Equity Team shares the October Petitions for the Prayers of the People below:
Benevolent God, we pray for discernment in the coming elections to choose leaders who work to address poverty, oppression, sickness, and inadequate healthcare, nutrition, and housing.
Righteous God, we pray for discernment in the coming elections to choose leaders who do justice, love kindness, and work for peace in the world.
Compassionate God, we pray for discernment in the coming elections to choose love and respect for our neighbors when voting on ballot questions concerning their rights.
Gracious God, strengthen us in working to ensure our neighbors might cast their votes without fear or interference; make us instruments of calm and reassurance that all might participate in our democratic process without reprisal.
Protecting God, safeguard poll workers, election officials, poll chaplains, and observers as they strive to ensure fairness and integrity in election processes to be peacefully conducted.
Loving God, empower us to be responsible citizens, grounding our lives in love for our neighbors, caring for society’s most vulnerable, while respecting the commonalities in life we share.
Almighty God, help us remember that our heritage includes the splendor of diversity your creation provides and unity in the divine liberties we enjoy. While we come from many cultures with differing languages and customs, unite us as a people who delight in our varied gifts.
Reconciling God, when we encounter disinformation against our neighbors with anger threatening to overwhelm us, do not let us give way to hate. Hear, help, and deliver us from anger’s power. Lead us away from bitter silence and hurtful words so that we might speak truth in love. Save us from vengeful thoughts and speech; help us stay on your path of empathy, kindness, and forgiveness.
