“Just Music” helps make malaria history at Advent Lutheran Church

Metro D.C. Synod congregations continue to support the ELCA Malaria Campaign as it goes over the $13 million mark.* In addition to our synod goal of $250,000, we also have a goal of 100% congregational participation. If your congregation has not already contributed, we urge you to consider doing so as we approach the campaign’s final year.

  • How did Lutheran Church of the Covenant (LCOC) in Dale City, Virginia celebrate its 45th anniversary? By giving away most of its 45th Anniversary Fund – amounting to a goal of $45,000 to be used for “Mission, Ministry and Mortgage.” A check for $5,000 to help eradicate malaria was presented to Dorothy Sorrell, the synod’s ELCA Malaria Campaign coordinator, during LCOC’s worship service on Nov. 16, 2014. Other uses for the fund will be a mission trip, the ELCA Youth Gathering, work of a local nonprofit, study of “The Story,” technology updates to the building… and the mortgage.
  • Steel pan drums, organ, piano, violins, cello, guitars, French horn and voice in a wide variety of styles were featured in “An Afternoon of Just Music” at Advent Lutheran Church in Arlington, Virginia on October 25, 2014 in support of “making malaria history.” Preceding the freewill offering designated for the ELCA Malaria Campaign, the congregation’s pastor, the Rev. Anna Anderson, prayed for those suffering with malaria and for an end to malaria.

This shows us that there are people who care.  One thing I am sure of is that [the members of the ELCA] believe that people should be the hands and the feet of God.” This message of thanks comes from Clement Rafael Banda, formerly the Malaria Livelihood Officer for the Lutheran malaria program in Zambia.**
