Malaria campaign goal reached!
“Please spread the word that the Malaria Campaign has reached its goal, and thanks to all who have contributed!” says Dorothy Sorrell, synod ELCA Malaria Campaign coordinator.
“We are honored to accompany our global companions in the Lutheran churches in Africa in their work to make malaria history,” says ELCA Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton. “We began the Malaria Campaign in the depths of the Great Recession and at a time of considerable turmoil in this church. The goal of raising $15 million might have sounded improbable at the time, but our people responded generously.”
Although the fundraising goal of $15 million has been met, our commitment to ending deaths from this preventable, treatable disease has not. Additional gifts may be given to expand the malaria efforts until Jan. 31, 2016. In the coming years, support to our companions and partners to address malaria will come through gifts to ELCA World Hunger, which has a long history of supporting health-related work.
