Cultivating the Art of the Ask

The Metro D.C. Synod Stewardship and Mission Support team is excited to offer Cultivating the Art of the Ask, a series designed to equip and empower rostered ministers and church leaders with the craft of asking donors for financial support to cultivate generosity for missions and ministry. In these interactive sessions, participants will practice skills provided and explore their personal stewardship history and its impact on their leadership. These tasks will be “real life” to the project you are working on that needs funds to succeed.
You are invited to join peers for this series of five interactive online sessions led by Bonnie Ives Marden to learn techniques that will help you deepen donor relationships and connect vision to mission. Space for the first cohort is limited so register today.
Content addresses the following skills and expectations:
- Define financial gift cultivation as spiritual formation and pastoral ministry
- Discover courage and build confidence to make inspiring financial asks
- Practice donor cultivation activities
- Expand financial resources year-round
Expected Outcomes:
- Participants can articulate an understanding of donor cultivation as pastoral care
- Participants complete minimum of 12 new asks
- Goal to generate $20,000 of new resources, averaging $200,000 for group of 10
- Participants experience practical skills for cultivating generosity/donor relationships
Sessions will be held on Mondays at 7:00PM to 8:30PM EST via Zoom on:
- April 25th
- May 9th and May 23rd
- June 6th and June 20th
Course Tuition: $150.00 for two participants per church (one rostered minister and one congregation member)
CEU Continuing education units available for rostered ministers.
As a participant, you can expect to spend approximately one to three hours on homework assignments between sessions that will help you create a structure for and practice of building donor relationships.
