A Statement on the Verdict on the Derek Chauvin Trial

We can stand  with the jury and say that they got it right in holding Derek Chauvin accountable for a death delivering act of violence.  May this verdict of guilty be part of fueling a change in our country and in our churches that must be embodied across the generations. We acknowledge that there is so much to do in America to stop racism and realize equity for all.  And so we pray:

Holy One, we gather in a space of prayer, giving thanks for your love which so vividly calls us over and over into loving our neighbor as ourselves.

We offer prayers of care for all who grieve the unjust murder of George Floyd, and we pray Your compassion for all the pain that remains.

Please, Dear God, hold us accountable to a commitment to work for a more just society. We pray for that day when all of God’s beloved children, so wonderfully created in your image, might live in dignity and respect. That day when the fears of state sanctioned violence, will be no more. That day, when we respond to your call to care for each other.

Una declaración sobre el veredicto del juicio de Derek Chauvin:

Estamos de acuerdo con el jurado al decir que hicieron bien al
responsabilizar a Derek Chauvin por un acto de violencia que
llevó a una muerte. Esperamos que este veredicto sea parte de
impulsar un cambio en nuestro país y en nuestras iglesias y que
pueda encarnarse a través de las generaciones. Reconocemos que
hay mucho por hacer en Estados Unidos para detener el racismo y
lograr la equidad para todos. Oremos:

Santo Dios, nos reunimos en un espacio de oración, dando
gracias por tu amor que tan vívidamente nos llama una y otra vez
a amar a nuestro prójimo como a nosotros mismos.

Ofrecemos oraciones de cariño por todos los que lloran el injusto
asesinato de George Floyd, y pedimos tu compasión por todo el
dolor que queda.

Por favor, querido Dios, haznos responsables del compromiso de
trabajar por una sociedad más justa. Oramos en este día en que
todos los amados hijos de Dios, creados tan maravillosamente a
tu imagen, puedan vivir con dignidad y respeto. Oramos por el día
en que los miedos a la violencia sancionada por el Estado, ya no
exististan más. Ese día, cuando respondamos a su llamado para
cuidarnos unos a otros.
