Going into labor
Are posters explaining certain laws displayed in your church building for staff? Federal laws require that places of employment display posters explaining employee and employer rights and obligations. These describe things like minimum wage, polygraph rights of employees, nondiscrimination laws and so forth.
If signs are not posted and representatives of the Department of Labor investigate, “heavy fines” may be imposed “just for that,” says Harold Sargeant of the synod staff. “Our signs are posted in the kitchen. Many secular employers post them by the time clock of the employee break room.”
The ELCA has a link to “the Poster Advisor” which will inform church staff of particular state law and posting requirements. See information from the ELCA churchwide office here. Bundled labor law posters are available from a number of outlets, including most office supply vendors.
