The installation of the Rev. Karsten Decker at Peace Lutheran Church in Bermuda, a congregation of the ELCA Metro D.C. Synod, was covered in The Royal Gazette, Bermuda’s only daily newspaper, on November 20. “Sunday’s installation service, proved to be very well-attended, including the ELCA Bishop, Rev. Graham and visitors from several Anglican, Presbyterian, Methodist and AME churches on the island,” wrote Sara Westhead in the article (“Decker Installed as Pastor – of Peace Lutheran Church”).

Bermuda may not be next door, but Peace Lutheran is a congregation of this synod.

“Pastor Decker realises [sic] that the Lutheran Church, and what it stands for, may not be so familiar to many Bermudians. Peace Lutheran Church was established as result of American Lutherans coming to Bermuda through the US Naval Air Station, as well as the small local German community wanting a place of their own to worship,” stated the article.

Pr. Decker was quoted, saying, “‘Rather than (increasing) numbers, I want to get the congregation to see that they have a mission on this island.'”
