Rev. Sarah Garrett Krey
Pastor Sarah was born and raised in Middle Tennessee and completed her ELCA candidacy through the Southeastern Synod. She holds a B.A. in Christian Leadership from Belmont University in Nashville, TN and an M.Div. from United Lutheran Seminary, where she lived and studied on the Philadelphia campus.
While in seminary, much of Pastor Sarah’s formation took shape during her time as a field education student at Temple Lutheran Church in Havertown, PA under the supervision of Rev. Tim Johansen, and during her internship year at Trinity Lutheran Church/Iglesia Luterana Trinidad on the Upper West Side of Manhattan under the leadership of Rev. Heidi Neumark. Pastor Sarah credits these two mentors especially for her passion around preaching and setting a radically welcoming table.
In 2019, Pastor Sarah was ordained and installed as Associate Pastor of Salem Lutheran Church in Catonsville, MD where she served until accepting the call to join the Metro D.C. Synod Staff.
Pastor Sarah is married to Pastor Micah Krey, who serves Faith Lutheran Church in Cockeysville, MD, a congregation of the Delaware-Maryland Synod. They live in Pikesville, MD with their dog, Henri, who is named after priest and writer Henri Nouwen. Henri serves faithfully in his unofficial role as the Assistant to the Bishop for Canine Relations in the Delaware-Maryland Synod, and is happy to lend his services to the Metro D.C. Synod as well.
