Announcement of New Assistant to the Bishop for Candidacy & Mobility

Group 236

Dear Siblings and Colleagues in Christ,

Holy transitions abound within our synod and across our church. The same is true on our synod staff. As you already know, Pr. Erin has followed the Spirit’s stirring and taken a call to serve as pastor in a congregation in Dallas, Texas. This meant that I was invited to discern who would serve as Assistant to the Bishop for Mobility and Candidacy next.

After prayer and intentional discernment, I have decided to call someone I believe will be a wonderful addition to our synod staff, not only because of her undeniable devotion to Jesus and all God’s beloved creation, but because I’ve witnessed her ask the church good and piercing questions and make hard and holy decisions as a response to the demands of the Gospel.

Rev. Sarah Garrett Krey is currently an Associate Pastor at Salem Lutheran Church in Catonsville, MD. She announced to her congregation today and will join our staff on July 1st.

We will joyfully install Pr. Garrett Krey as Assistant to the Bishop for Mobility and Candidacy at our Synod Assembly this summer. I ask that you keep her, Salem Lutheran Church, and our synod in prayer as we all continue to live into our ministries while in transition… with God’s help and in Jesus’ name.

Bishop Leila M. Ortiz

Greetings from Pr. Sarah Garrett Krey

To the people of God in the Metro D.C. Synod,

Grace and peace to you from God our creator and our risen Lord Jesus Christ. I am so grateful to be joining the Metro D.C. Synod staff so that we can be attentive to the movement of the Holy Spirit in this corner of God’s kin-dom together. Some fast facts about me – I currently live in Pikesville, Maryland with my spouse, Pastor Micah Krey, and our energetic pup, Henri (named after theologian Henri Nouwen). I enjoy tennis, any excuse to talk about my dog, and hearing and telling the story of God’s redeeming love in the world. I look forward to visiting with many of you soon, and pray that I can be a resource and encouraging presence for communities and leaders in discernment or transition. I continue to hold you in prayer, and look forward to meeting you soon!

The Rev. Sarah Garrett Krey
