Participate in a Sacred Group Small Group – Sign Up Today!
Bishop Leila Ortiz and Metro D.C. Synod Racial Equity Team invite all rostered leaders to participate in Sacred Ground a film-based dialog series on race and faith.
In this 12-part series, small groups are invited to walk back through history and reflect on the situations and circumstances that have contributed to where we find ourselves today, including current challenges and divisions. We will reflect on our personal family histories and stories, as well as important narratives that shape the collective American story.
Originally created by the Episcopal Church, the series is built around a powerful online curriculum of documentary films and readings that focus on Indigenous, Black, Latino, and Asian/Pacific American histories as they intersect with European American histories.
Sacred Ground is a spiritual journey, grounded in the example of Jesus Christ and the power of scripture, prayer, God’s grace, and the Holy Spirit to help us step closer to the dream of beloved community.
For each session, we will watch documentaries and engage readings to help inform and enlighten. We will then gather on Zoom for conversations—all while grounded in our call to faith, hope, and love. Towards the end of the series, we will also discuss how to facilitate these conversations within our own ministry settings.
If you are interested in participating in the upcoming series, please let us know by completing the form below.
When you sign up below, please note your preferred day of the week and time to meet. We will attempt to assign groups according to first preference but might need to use second and third preferences to balance groups.
