Feeding Neighbors: Mar-Lu-Ridge

Recently, the Synod offered Feeding Our Neighbors Together mini-grants for congregations to feed neighbors in need. We asked congregations to get creative and to share their story with us so that we could disseminate it to the wider synod. When we work together, the ministry possibilities are endless.

The rural area surrounding Mar-Lu-Ridge Summer Camp & Retreat Center is in need, and Mar-Lu-Ridge advertised the opportunity for a free hot meal with their local food banks in Jefferson and Adamstown. On November 5 and 19, and again on December 3, they served a total of 27 people from the surrounding area. While they were hoping to reach even more, they know that each person who came felt welcomed and nourished. They sent extra food with all for more meals at home.

The grant funds purchased food, ingredients for homemade meals, and carry out containers, as well as two road signs. They divided the remainder of the funds between the two food banks mentioned above.
